Summer is in full swing and we’re enjoying everything the warmer months have to offer, including the biggest holiday of the season, Independence Day. This 4th of July, we’re celebrating 243 years of American greatness with everything we love: fun, sun, and fireworks! Whether you plan to stay at home with family and friends or step outside for something more exciting, we’ve got some ideas for celebrating our favorite patriotic holiday.
Just 45 minutes north of Atlanta lies Lake Lanier, and with nearly 60 square miles of water, and almost 700 miles of shoreline, it’s the perfect spot for the Fourth. Whether you bring your jetski, rent a boat, or spread a blanket on one of the many white sand swimming beaches, there are many great ways to soak up the sun and enjoy the lake. If you’re feeling adventurous, check out the water parks or book a zipline canopy tour.
Break out the grill and turn up the heat, ’cause there’s nothing more American than a backyard barbecue! Whether it’s chicken or burgers, hotdogs or bratwurst, the flame adds flavor you can’t find in a bottle. From sides to dessert, everything is better on the grill. Fresh sweet corn steams in the husk before picking up a tasty char over the coals, while sliced grilled peaches are next level with vanilla ice cream and graham cracker crumbles. Craving great bbq without the heat and hassle? You can find smoked brisket, sweet charred tomatoes, and the best burgers in Midtown at McCray’s Tavern.
This summer is shaping up to be a hot one, and there’s no cooler way to celebrate the 4th than inviting all your friends for the ultimate pool party. From Tropical Tiki to Red White and Blue, choose a theme and go all out with coordinating decorations, drinks, and desserts. Throw in some pool floats, delicious cocktails, plus your perfect summer playlist, and you’re ready for some serious fun in the sun. Just don’t forget the sunscreen!
It’s not Independence Day without fireworks! Make plans to see the big shows from Midtown, where you can see the Atlanta sky light up from Piedmont Park, or stock up for your own epic light show at home. From bottle rockets to mortars, sparklers to artillery shells, you can find something to please everyone at one of the seasonal fireworks stands. Consumer fireworks have been legal in Georgia since 2015, but there may be local ordinances that restrict when or where you can shoot the big ones, so be sure to check your local laws before lighting up the backyard.
Whatever your plans for the 4th, there’s no better place to be than Atlanta. From grilling in the park to fireworks after dark, spend the day with family and friends while enjoying good food and cold drinks. Swing by McCray’s Tavern in Midtown this Independence Day and celebrate America with us!
