The restaurant industry is constantly changing and evolving, so there is always an opportunity for growth and job advancement. A lot of people view working at a restaurant as a temporary position, as something that they do while in college or waiting for a better job opportunity. Few people see working in restaurants as their final career choice, yet it can be a great one.
McCray’s Tavern has always been proud of finding amazing talent within our team and giving them the opportunity to shine. Mary Lay, our Director of Operations, started off as a hostess and server before taking responsibility for McCray’s Tavern and other of LEAD’s affiliated restaurants. Similarly, Stephen Steininger started working at McCray’s in 2010 as a bus boy, now he is the Beverage Director responsible for creating the tasty cocktails you find at McCray’s Tavern.
It takes a lot to run a successful restaurant. It requires a lot of skills for working at a restaurant, multitasking, and a strong sense of teamwork. From the kitchen staff to the front desk, everyone must work together to create wonderful customer service and make their dining experience memorable. Working in a restaurant creates a feeling of camaraderie and often leaves people with a sense of belonging.
One of the best skills for working at a restaurant is customer service and learning how to work with people. You will also learn about time management and the importance of multitasking. A lot of these skills are transferable to other industries and are great to have in life.
Restaurants are fast-paced environments. You will never sit still or be bored, especially during the dinner rush. After a shift of running around and working under pressure, you’ll come home after every day with a sense of accomplishment.
It also means that you will never have the same day twice. You’ll go to work never knowing exactly what to expect and often find yourself with new challenges. While not for everyone, many people who succeed in the restaurant industry often find this to be the best part of their job.
McCray’s Tavern is one of the best restaurants to work at. With success stories like Mary and Stephen’s, you know that the people at McCray’s are truly looking out for their employees. They want you to succeed and find your place and there is no better place than our midtown Atlanta restaurant.
“I love teaching hospitality to the next generation,” Patrick Brooks, Director of Business Development, said “and watching them think on their feet and want to learn. Restaurant careers are a dying breed. It’s often seen as a way to work through college or a second job, the lifers are the ones who get into management. It’s those who I love to teach and watch evolve.”
