Whether you're a football fan watching the big game, or just looking for something to do on an otherwise uneventful night, there's only one way to enjoy all the action: have a cold beverage with some good friends at McCray’s Tavern. The question is where do you decide to sit at our East Cobb tavern: at a bar or at a table? Is one better for the full game-watching experience? The great debate of bar versus table has been going on for ages and it's time we try to find out which gameday seating option reigns supreme.
The first question to consider when you are deciding on whether or not to sit at the bar is how many people are you with. While bars are great for being social, most bartenders will tell you to sit at tables if your party is over three people. With that being said, bars are a great place to wait while your table is being prepared and maybe order a drink or two. Just don’t expect them to serve your meals up there when you have a large party.
If you are feeling like you want to talk to new and interesting people, sitting at the bar is the best option. While it’s not completely unheard of, it’s much more unlikely that you can start up a conversation with strangers the next booth over. If you are wanting to talk to people outside of your group, sitting at the bar is the way to go.
Is it rude to sit at the bar when you are on a date? Despite common perception, sitting at the bar is actually a lot more intimate than sitting at a table. This is because you are sitting side by side instead of across from each other and there is more opportunity for physical interaction.
If you are looking for a little more privacy, though, sitting at a booth or a table is your best bet. You are also more likely to be able to enjoy your meal for a longer period of time without feeling rushed.
Sitting at the bar has quality service because the bartender is right there. Your bartender doesn’t have to roam the entire restaurant and has everything they need to serve you right in front of them. This leads to quick service, and because of your bartender’s close proximity to you, they are much more likely to be courteous and competent. As long as you tip well and are kind to them, they will usually be sociable and helpful. This isn’t to say that you can’t get great service at a table; bars just offer a unique opportunity for a different kind of service.
When you sit at a table, there’s usually an expectation that you are ordering a full meal. However, when you sit at the bar, you can order anything from appetizers to full meals or even just drinks. The only rule is that you order something.
